BURN NOTICE

This is the BURN NOTICE. This group show is open to all who are willing to follow through.

THEME: Experiments. Risks. First drafts. Wild ideas. Creations that don’t play nice.

This is your chance to present something outside your comfort zone — a piece you wouldn’t normally show, or one that defies polish, perfection, or expectation.  It may be a project that went somewhere unexpected or a commission gone rogue… Maybe it’s time to resurrect it, push it, stretch yourself. Maybe it’s time to make that statement, fly that freak flag and then burn it.

Works do not have to be ‘for sale’. If your piece is for sale, state your requirement. If it isn’t claimed, it goes to the pyre. (Proof of compensation rescues it from the burn.) The closing reception can be a house of bargains if that is what is made of it, but at the end of the reception, any unsold works become part of a cleansing bonfire. Our closing night ritual is timed perfectly in the shadow of Halloween, and recognizes All Saints Day, Día de los Muertos, and the turning back of the clocks.

Edgy, raw, and unrestrained voices are especially welcome.

RE: Burn Notice

Why “Burn Notice”?

In spy craft, a burn notice declares an agent or asset no longer viable — no more protection, they are on their own. In art, this is your chance to ditch the safety net, to release that asset, to make without fear of maintaining dogma, to experiment loudly, to throw something raw into the world and see what resonates. If it can’t survive on its own, it will be released to flame, smoke, and memory.

Submission Guidelines:

  • An artist may provide up to to 3 submissions, however, due spacial limitations, not all work may be displayed. Undisplayed work is exempt from the burn.

  • 2D or 3D media welcome.

  • Submissions can be experiments, early attempts, or finished works — this is about risk, not perfection. Reprints or photocopies will be considered firestarter.

  • Size limits: To be located inside the gallery, any 3D art object must be narrower than 34”, no taller than 8’-9” and because the space is compact, take up no more than 6 square feet (this includes multi-piece items). 2D items will be limited to 72” tall by 36” wide

  • Dyptichs and Tryptichs may be submitted, but may not be more than 48” total width or 96” total height.

Timeline:

  • Drop-off:  Kenyon House, 612 W. Main You may drop off your work Saturdays or Sundays from noon-5pm during gallery hours, or by appt. If you need assistance loading, or moving your work, please ask – we’ll be more than happy to help out.

  • Submission deadline is Wednesday, October 8th at 7:00pm. We will begin hanging the work at 8pm

Opening: 10/10/25 from 6:00-9:00pm

Closing Reception: 11/01/25; 6:30-9:30 with the bonfire beginning at 10pm
