Learn to draw from direct observation in real time (not from photos), focusing on capturing place and atmosphere.

Each class starts with instruction, then practice the techniques in real life, sketching your surroundings (outdoors if weather permits) and builds on the previous week’s skills.

In our four (4) 2-hour lessons, we will cover the following:

  • Start with big shapes

  • Choose an anchor point for proportion

  • How to use geometry of a square to clarify scale and proportion

  • Intro to one-point perspective

  • Suggest surroundings with loose marks

  • Work quickly with inexpensive materials

  • Create expressive, personal urban sketches

  • Add quick color notes to bring sketches to life
